38 Special is an American rock band that formed in Jacksonville, Florida in 1974. The band's name refers to a .38 Special cartridge, a type of firearm ammunition. The original lineup consisted of Don Barnes, Donnie Van Zant, Jeff Carlisi, Larry Junstrom, Jack Grondin, and Steve Brookins. Over the years, the band has undergone several lineup changes, with Barnes being the only constant member.


38 Special gained popularity in the 1980s with hits like "Hold On Loosely," "Caught Up in You," and "If I'd Been the One." Their music is characterized by a blend of Southern rock, arena rock, and pop sensibilities. The band has released over a dozen studio albums and continues to tour and perform live.
