3rd Bass was an American hip hop group formed in 1987 in New York City. The group consisted of MC Serch (Michael Berrin), Pete Nice (Peter J. Nash), and DJ Richie Rich (Richard Lawson). They were known for their socially conscious lyrics, intricate wordplay, and innovative production. 3rd Bass released their debut album, "The Cactus Album," in 1989, which was well-received by critics and fans alike. The album featured the hit single "Pop Goes the Weasel," which helped propel them to mainstream success.


In 1991, 3rd Bass released their second album, "Derelicts of Dialect," which also received positive reviews. The group disbanded in 1992, with each member pursuing solo projects. Despite their relatively short-lived career, 3rd Bass is remembered as an influential and pioneering group in the golden age of hip hop, known for their unique style and thought-provoking lyrics.
