Ace Cannon was an American tenor and alto saxophonist known for his contributions to the genres of R&B, rock and roll, and blues. He was born as John "Ace" Cannon in Grenada, Mississippi on May 5, 1934, and began playing the saxophone at a young age. Cannon rose to fame in the 1960s with his smooth and soulful saxophone playing style, earning him the nickname "The Godfather of Sax."
Throughout his career, Cannon released numerous albums and singles, with his most notable hit being the instrumental track "Tuff," which reached the top 20 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1962. He also toured extensively and performed with various artists, including Jerry Lee Lewis and Conway Twitty. Cannon was inducted into the Rockabilly Hall of Fame and the Rock and Soul Hall of Fame for his significant contributions to music. He passed away on December 6, 2018, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the world of music.
