Akon, born Aliaune Thiam in 1973, is a Senegalese-American singer, songwriter, and producer. He rose to fame with his debut album "Trouble" in 2004, which featured hit singles like "Locked Up" and "Lonely." Akon's music blends R&B, hip-hop, and dancehall influences, and he is known for his smooth vocals and catchy hooks.

Aside from his solo career, Akon has also collaborated with numerous artists, including Lady Gaga, Eminem, and T-Pain. He founded Konvict Muzik and KonLive Distribution, record labels that have helped launch the careers of artists like T-Pain and Kardinal Offishall. Akon's philanthropic efforts include providing solar power to African countries through his Akon Lighting Africa initiative.
