Anita Baker is an American R&B and soul singer-songwriter who rose to fame in the 1980s. She was born on January 26, 1958, in Toledo, Ohio. Baker's music career began in the late 1970s when she joined the funk band Chapter 8 as the lead vocalist. Her solo career took off in 1983 with the release of her debut album, "The Songstress," which garnered critical acclaim but limited commercial success. It was her second album, "Rapture," released in 1986, that launched her to stardom. The album went on to sell over 8 million copies worldwide and earned Baker two Grammy Awards.


Throughout her career, Anita Baker has been known for her distinctive voice, which has been described as smooth, soulful, and emotive.
