Ann Peebles is an American singer and songwriter known for her soulful vocals and hits in the 1970s. She was born on April 27, 1947, in St. Louis, Missouri. Peebles began her music career in the 1960s, signing with Hi Records and working with producer Willie Mitchell. Her biggest hit came in 1973 with the song "I Can't Stand the Rain," which reached the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.


In addition to "I Can't Stand the Rain," Peebles had other successful songs like "I'm Gonna Tear Your Playhouse Down" and "Part Time Love." She was known for her powerful voice and emotional delivery, which earned her a reputation as one of the leading female artists in soul music.
