Anthony Newley was an English actor, singer, and songwriter born on September 24, 1931, in London, England. He began his career as a child actor and appeared in various films and stage productions, including the film adaptation of "Oliver Twist" in 1948. Newley gained recognition for his musical talents and became a successful singer in the 1950s and 1960s, known for hits such as "Why" and "Do You Mind."


In addition to his music career, Newley also had success as a composer and lyricist, collaborating with Leslie Bricusse on several musicals, including "Stop the World ΓÇô I Want to Get Off" and "The Roar of the Greasepaint ΓÇô The Smell of the Crowd." He continued to work in the entertainment industry throughout his life, earning critical acclaim for his performances on stage and screen. Anthony Newley passed away on April 14, 1999, leaving behind a legacy of influential work in the arts.
