Born on March 25, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee, Franklin began her career as a gospel singer before achieving mainstream success in the 1960s with hit songs like "Respect," "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman," and "Chain of Fools." Known as the "Queen of Soul," Franklin's powerful and soulful voice earned her multiple Grammy Awards and a permanent place in music history.


Throughout her career, Aretha Franklin released numerous albums and singles that topped the charts and became anthems for the civil rights and feminist movements. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 and received the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2005. Aretha Franklin passed away on August 16, 2018, but her music continues to inspire and influence generations of artists across various genres.
