Aretha Franklin, born on March 25, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee, was an American singer, songwriter, and pianist who became known as the "Queen of Soul." She began her career singing gospel music in her father's church before achieving commercial success in the secular world. Franklin signed with Columbia Records in 1960 and later switched to Atlantic Records, where she released some of her most iconic hits, including "Respect," "Think," and "Chain of Fools."


Throughout her career, Franklin won a total of 18 Grammy Awards and sold over 75 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling music artists of all time. She was also the first female artist to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. Aretha Franklin's powerful voice, soulful delivery, and ability to blend gospel, R&B, and pop music have solidified her as one of the greatest singers in music history. Franklin passed away on August 16, 2018, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the music industry.
