Aretha Franklin was an American singer, songwriter, and pianist who is considered one of the greatest and most influential artists in the history of soul music. Born on March 25, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee, Franklin began her career as a child singing gospel music in her father's church. She signed with Columbia Records in 1960 and achieved commercial success with songs like "Respect," "Natural Woman," and "Chain of Fools."


Franklin's powerful voice and ability to blend gospel, R&B, and pop music styles earned her the title "The Queen of Soul." Throughout her career, she won 18 Grammy Awards, including the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1994. Franklin was the first woman to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987. She continued to perform and record music until her death on August 16, 2018, leaving behind a lasting legacy as one of the most iconic and influential musicians of her time.
