Aretha Franklin, born on March 25, 1942, in Memphis, Tennessee, was an American singer, songwriter, and pianist. She is widely regarded as the "Queen of Soul" and was known for her powerful voice and ability to blend various music genres, including soul, R&B, gospel, and pop. Franklin began her career as a child singing gospel music at her father's church and went on to sign with Columbia Records in 1960, where she released several albums that did not achieve commercial success.
In 1967, Franklin signed with Atlantic Records and released the hit single "I Never Loved a Man (The Way I Love You)," which catapulted her to stardom. Throughout her career, she recorded numerous iconic songs, including "Respect," "Think," and "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman." Franklin received numerous awards and accolades, including 18 Grammy Awards and the Presidential Medal of Freedom. She passed away on August 16, 2018, leaving behind a lasting legacy as one of the greatest vocalists in music history.
