Arthur Lyman was an American jazz vibraphonist and percussionist known for his influential role in the exotica music genre. Born on February 2, 1932, in Kauai, Hawaii, Lyman gained fame as a member of the Martin Denny Group, a popular exotica band in the 1950s and 1960s. He later embarked on a successful solo career, releasing numerous albums that blended jazz, traditional Hawaiian music, and tropical sounds.


Lyman's music often featured lush tropical arrangements, bird calls, and other exotic elements, creating a relaxing and immersive listening experience. His most famous album, "Taboo," released in 1958, became a bestseller and solidified his reputation as a pioneer of the exotica genre. Throughout his career, Lyman continued to perform and record music, earning a dedicated following and influencing subsequent generations of musicians. He passed away on February 24, 2002, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the world of exotica music.
