Ashford & Simpson were an American husband-and-wife songwriting and recording duo. The duo consisted of Nickolas Ashford (1941ΓÇô2011) and Valerie Simpson (b. 1946), who were known for their success in the genres of soul, R&B, and disco music. They met in 1964 at the White Rock Baptist Church in Harlem, where they began their musical partnership.
Ashford & Simpson wrote a number of hit songs for other artists before launching their own successful recording career in the 1970s. Some of their most famous songs include "Ain't No Mountain High Enough" and "You're All I Need to Get By." The duo continued to perform and record together for several decades, earning critical acclaim and commercial success. Ashford & Simpson were inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002.
