Average White Band is a Scottish funk and R&B band formed in 1972. The group found success in the 1970s with their tight, groove-oriented sound and distinctive horn arrangements. Their breakthrough came with their 1974 album "AWB," which included the hit single "Pick Up the Pieces." The song reached the top of the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart and helped solidify the band's reputation as one of the leading funk bands of the era.

Average White Band continued to release successful albums throughout the 1970s, including "Cut the Cake" and "Soul Searching." Despite various lineup changes over the years, the band maintained a loyal following and continued to tour and record new music.
