Artist Bio:
The Bar-Kays are an American soul, R&B, and funk band formed in Memphis, Tennessee in 1966. Originally, the group served as the backing band for Stax Records artists, most notably Otis Redding. Tragically, four members of the band were among the victims of the 1967 plane crash that also claimed the life of Redding.
Despite this setback, the Bar-Kays regrouped and continued to make music, eventually becoming a successful recording and performing act in their own right. They achieved commercial success with hits such as "Soul Finger" and "Shake Your Rump to the Funk." The Bar-Kays have remained active over the decades, evolving their sound to incorporate elements of contemporary R&B and hip-hop while still staying true to their funk roots.
