Artist Bio:
The Bar-Kays are an American soul, R&B, and funk band formed in Memphis, Tennessee in 1966. Originally a backup band for the legendary Stax Records label, they later became a successful recording act in their own right. The original lineup included James Alexander, Ronnie Caldwell, Ben Cauley, Phalon Jones, Carl Cunningham, and Jimmy King.
Tragically, most of the original members of the Bar-Kays were killed in a plane crash in 1967, including lead singer Ben Cauley. Despite this devastating loss, the band reformed with new members and went on to achieve commercial success in the 1970s and 1980s. They are best known for hits such as "Soul Finger" and "Shake Your Rump to the Funk." The Bar-Kays have continued to perform and record music, maintaining a strong presence in the soul and funk music scene.
