Barbara Acklin was an American soul singer and songwriter born on February 28, 1943, in Oakland, California. She began her music career in the 1960s as a songwriter for the Chicago-based record label Brunswick Records. Acklin wrote several hit songs for artists such as The Dells and Jackie Wilson before launching her own solo singing career.


In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Barbara Acklin released a series of successful soul and R&B singles, including "Love Makes a Woman" and "Am I the Same Girl." Her music was known for its smooth vocals and sophisticated arrangements. Acklin's contributions to the soul music genre earned her a dedicated fan base and critical acclaim. Tragically, she passed away on November 27, 1998, but her music continues to be celebrated by fans of classic soul music.
