Barbara Acklin was an American soul singer and songwriter born on February 28, 1943, in Oakland, California. She rose to fame in the 1960s and 1970s with hits such as "Love Makes a Woman" and "Am I the Same Girl." Acklin was known for her distinctive voice and her ability to blend elements of soul, pop, and jazz in her music.


Aside from her successful solo career, Barbara Acklin also collaborated with other artists, including Eugene Record of The Chi-Lites. She co-wrote several songs for the group, such as "Have You Seen Her" and "Oh Girl." Acklin continued to perform and record music until her passing on November 27, 1998, in Nebraska, at the age of 55. Her contributions to the soul music genre continue to be celebrated and remembered by fans and music historians.
