Barry McGuire is an American singer-songwriter who is best known for his 1965 hit song "Eve of Destruction," which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Born on October 15, 1935, in Oklahoma, McGuire started his career as a member of the folk group The New Christy Minstrels before embarking on a solo career. In addition to "Eve of Destruction," McGuire released several other albums and singles throughout the 1960s and 1970s, although he never achieved the same level of commercial success as he did with his signature hit.


McGuire's music often reflected the social and political issues of his time, and he was known for his protest songs and folk rock style.
