Barry McGuire is an American singer-songwriter who is best known for his 1965 hit song "Eve of Destruction," which reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Born on October 15, 1935, in Oklahoma, McGuire started his music career as a member of the folk group The New Christy Minstrels before embarking on a solo career.
In addition to "Eve of Destruction," McGuire released several albums throughout the 1960s and 1970s, with his music often touching on social and political issues of the time. He also appeared in the musical "Hair" on Broadway in the 1970s. Despite achieving success with "Eve of Destruction," McGuire did not have another hit on the same scale and eventually transitioned to a career in Christian music. McGuire continues to perform and record music, with a focus on religious and inspirational themes.
