Baz Luhrmann is an Australian film director, screenwriter, and producer born on September 17, 1962, in Sydney, Australia. He is best known for his visually extravagant and stylistically bold films that often blend elements of romance, music, and spectacle. Luhrmann gained international recognition with his 1992 film "Strictly Ballroom," which won the Prix de la Jeunesse at the Cannes Film Festival.
One of Luhrmann's most famous works is the 1996 film "Romeo + Juliet," a modern adaptation of William Shakespeare's classic play starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Claire Danes. In 2001, he directed the musical "Moulin Rouge!" which received critical acclaim and earned Luhrmann his first Academy Award nomination for Best Director. His other notable works include "Australia" (2008) and "The Great Gatsby" (2013).
