Beastie Boys were an American hip hop group formed in 1981 in New York City. The group consisted of members Adam "MCA" Yauch, Michael "Mike D" Diamond, and Adam "Ad-Rock" Horovitz. They were known for their eclectic sampling, witty lyrics, and punk rock influence, which set them apart from other hip hop acts of the time. Beastie Boys released their debut album, "Licensed to Ill," in 1986, which became the first rap album to top the Billboard 200 chart.


Throughout their career, Beastie Boys released several critically acclaimed albums, including "Paul's Boutique," "Check Your Head," and "Ill Communication." They were also known for their activism and support for various social and political causes. In 2012, the group was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Beastie Boys disbanded in 2012 following the death of Adam Yauch. Their pioneering contributions to hip hop music and culture have left a lasting impact on the industry.
