He was born on September 28, 1938, in Henderson, North Carolina, and passed away on April 30, 2015, in Hackensack, New Jersey. King rose to fame as the lead singer of the Drifters, a vocal group known for hits like "Save the Last Dance for Me" and "This Magic Moment."


In 1960, Ben E. King left the Drifters to pursue a solo career and scored a massive hit with his iconic song "Stand by Me" in 1961, which became a classic and was later featured in various films and TV shows. Throughout his career, King continued to release successful singles and albums, earning him a well-deserved spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Drifters.
