Ben E. King, born Benjamin Earl Nelson on September 28, 1938, was an American soul and R&B singer. He was best known for his smooth baritone voice and his hit songs, including "Stand by Me" and "Spanish Harlem." King first rose to fame as a member of the Drifters in the late 1950s, where he sang lead on several of their biggest hits. In 1960, he embarked on a solo career, achieving great success with his signature song "Stand by Me," which was released in 1961 and became a timeless classic.


Throughout his career, King released numerous albums and singles, earning critical acclaim and commercial success. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of the Drifters in 1988 and as a solo artist in 2015. Ben E. King's music continues to be celebrated and remembered for its emotional depth, soulful delivery, and enduring appeal. He passed away on April 30, 2015, leaving behind a legacy as one of the greatest voices in soul music.
