King began his music career as a member of the doo-wop group The Drifters, where he gained recognition for his distinctive baritone voice. He left the group in 1960 to pursue a solo career and achieved great success as a solo artist.


"Stand by Me," released in 1961, became King's signature song and a timeless classic in the music industry. The song reached the top ten of the Billboard Hot 100 chart and has since been covered by numerous artists. Throughout his career, Ben E. King was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame as a member of The Drifters and received various accolades for his contributions to soul music.
