Betty Everett was an American soul singer and pianist born on November 23, 1939, in Greenwood, Mississippi. She is best known for her hit single "The Shoop Shoop Song (It's in His Kiss)," which reached number one on the R&B chart and number six on the Billboard Hot 100 in 1964. Everett began her music career in the late 1950s, recording for various labels before signing with Vee-Jay Records in the early 1960s. She released several successful singles during her time with Vee-Jay, including "You're No Good" and "Let It Be Me."
In addition to her solo career, Betty Everett collaborated with fellow soul singer Jerry Butler on several duets, including the hit song "Let It Be Me." Despite her success in the 1960s, Everett's career declined in the 1970s, and she eventually retired from the music industry. She passed away on August 19, 2001, in Beloit, Wisconsin, leaving behind a legacy as a talented and influential soul singer of the 1960s.
