Betty Harris is an American soul singer who gained popularity in the 1960s. Born on July 9, 1939, in Orlando, Florida, she started her music career by performing in local clubs before being discovered by musician and producer Bert Berns. Harris signed with Jubilee Records and released her first single, "Taking Care of Business," in 1963. She later worked with renowned producer Allen Toussaint and recorded several successful singles, including "Cry to Me" and "Nearer to You."


Harris' music career was relatively short-lived, as she retired from the industry in the early 1970s to focus on her family. Despite her brief time in the spotlight, Betty Harris is fondly remembered for her powerful and soulful voice, as well as her contributions to the soul music scene of the 1960s.
