Artist Bio:
Big Brother and the Holding Company was an American rock band that was formed in San Francisco in 1965. The band is best known for being the launching pad for singer Janis Joplin, who joined the group in 1966. Their sound was characterized by a mix of blues, folk, and psychedelic rock, and they were one of the key bands in the San Francisco music scene during the 1960s.
Big Brother and the Holding Company gained popularity after their performance at the Monterey Pop Festival in 1967, and they released their debut album the same year. Their second album, "Cheap Thrills," released in 1968, was a major commercial success and featured Joplin's powerful vocals on hits like "Piece of My Heart" and "Summertime." The band continued to perform and record music throughout the late 1960s and early 1970s before disbanding in 1972.
