Bill Black's Combo was a rock and roll band formed in Memphis, Tennessee in 1959 by musician Bill Black. The group was named after its leader and consisted of Black on bass, Joe Lewis Hall on piano, Reggie Young on guitar, Martin Willis on saxophone, and Jerry Arnold on drums. The band is best known for their instrumental hits such as "Smokie, Part 2" and "White Silver Sands," which both reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the early 1960s.
Bill Black's Combo was also the backup band for Elvis Presley during live performances and recording sessions from 1954 to 1958. Despite Black's untimely death in 1965, the Combo continued to perform and release albums into the 1970s. Their music has been influential in the development of rock and roll and continues to be enjoyed by fans of the genre.
