Bill Black's Combo was a rock and roll band formed in Memphis, Tennessee in 1959. The group was led by musician Bill Black, who was also known for being the bassist in Elvis Presley's band, the Blue Moon Boys. The band's sound was a mix of rockabilly, R&B, and instrumental rock, and they achieved commercial success in the early 1960s.
Bill Black's Combo released several instrumental albums and singles that were popular on the charts, including their hit song "Smokie, Part 2" which reached the top of the Billboard Hot 100 in 1959. The band toured extensively and performed on television shows such as American Bandstand and The Ed Sullivan Show. Despite the death of Bill Black in 1965, the Combo continued to release music and tour until the early 1970s, leaving behind a legacy of influential instrumental rock music.
