Bill Doggett was an American jazz and R&B pianist and organist, best known for his hit instrumental song "Honky Tonk" in 1956. Born on February 16, 1916, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, Doggett started his music career as a pianist in the 1930s and later switched to the organ in the 1940s. He played with various bands and artists, including Lucky Millinder and Louis Jordan, before forming his own group, The Bill Doggett Combo, in the 1950s.
In addition to "Honky Tonk," Doggett had several other successful singles, such as "Slow Walk" and "Ram-Bunk-Shush." He continued to perform and record music throughout the 1960s and 1970s, blending jazz, R&B, and soul influences in his distinct style. Doggett passed away on November 13, 1996, leaving behind a legacy as a pioneering figure in the world of jazz and R&B music.
