Bill Haley and His Comets were an American rock and roll band formed in 1952. They are credited with helping to popularize rock and roll music in the early 1950s with their energetic live performances and hit songs. The band's most famous hit, "Rock Around the Clock," released in 1954, is considered one of the pioneering rock and roll records and helped to catapult the genre into the mainstream.
Led by singer and guitarist Bill Haley, the group's lineup changed over the years, but they continued to release popular songs and tour extensively throughout the 1950s and 1960s. Some of their other well-known songs include "Shake, Rattle and Roll" and "See You Later, Alligator." Bill Haley and His Comets were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1987 in recognition of their significant contributions to the genre.
