Billy Stewart was an American rhythm and blues singer and pianist, born on March 24, 1937, in Washington D.C. He gained popularity in the 1960s with his unique vocal style that combined traditional R&B with scat singing. Stewart's most well-known hit is "Summertime," a jazzy rendition of the classic song from the opera Porgy and Bess, which reached the top 10 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1966.
Tragically, Billy Stewart's promising career was cut short when he died in a car accident on January 17, 1970, at the age of 32. Despite his untimely death, Stewart's music continues to be celebrated for its soulful sound and his distinctive vocal delivery, which set him apart from his contemporaries in the R&B genre.
