Black Sabbath is an English rock band formed in Birmingham in 1968 by guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, singer Ozzy Osbourne, and drummer Bill Ward. They are often credited with pioneering the heavy metal genre and are considered one of the greatest and most influential rock bands of all time. Their self-titled debut album, released in 1970, is widely regarded as the first heavy metal album.
Black Sabbath's sound is characterized by Iommi's heavy guitar riffs, Butler's dark lyrics and heavy bass lines, Ward's powerful drumming, and Osbourne's distinctive vocals. Some of their most popular songs include "Paranoid," "Iron Man," and "War Pigs." Despite numerous lineup changes over the years, Black Sabbath has continued to be a major influence on countless bands and musicians and have sold over 70 million records worldwide.
