Black Sabbath is an English rock band formed in Birmingham in 1968. The original lineup consisted of vocalist Ozzy Osbourne, guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward. They are often cited as pioneers of heavy metal music. The band's music is characterized by Iommi's guitar riffs, Osbourne's distinctive vocals, Butler's dark lyrics, and Ward's powerful drumming.
Black Sabbath released their self-titled debut album in 1970, which is considered one of the first heavy metal albums. They followed up with several critically acclaimed albums, including "Paranoid" (1970) and "Master of Reality" (1971). The band has undergone numerous lineup changes over the years, with Osbourne leaving and returning multiple times. Despite these changes, Black Sabbath has maintained a loyal fan base and is regarded as one of the most influential rock bands of all time. They have sold over 70 million records worldwide and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2006.
