Following the success of the sketch, the Blues Brothers released a hit album titled "Briefcase Full of Blues" in 1978, which featured live performances of classic blues songs. The duo also starred in a successful 1980 musical comedy film, "The Blues Brothers," which further solidified their status as iconic figures in American music and comedy. Despite the untimely death of John Belushi in 1982, the Blues Brothers continued to perform with different guest artists taking on the roles of Jake and Elwood.
