The Blues Brothers were a musical duo originally created by comedians Dan Aykroyd and John Belushi in 1978. Aykroyd and Belushi portrayed characters named Elwood Blues and "Joliet" Jake Blues, respectively, who were inspired by the blues and soul music they loved. The Blues Brothers became popular for their energetic live performances and their blend of blues, rhythm and blues, and soul music.
The Blues Brothers released their debut album, "Briefcase Full of Blues," in 1978, which was a commercial success and featured popular tracks like "Soul Man" and "Gimme Some Lovin'." The duo also starred in a hit musical comedy film, "The Blues Brothers," in 1980. Despite Belushi's untimely death in 1982, the Blues Brothers continued to perform and record music with Aykroyd and various other musicians taking on the roles of Elwood and Jake. The Blues Brothers remain a beloved and iconic musical act known for their lively performances and dedication to the blues genre.
