Bobby Bland, born Robert Calvin Bland, was an American blues and R&B singer who was born on January 27, 1930, in Rosemark, Tennessee and passed away on June 23, 2013, in Memphis, Tennessee. He was known for his powerful voice and unique blend of blues, soul, and gospel music. Bland's career spanned over six decades and he released numerous hit songs, including "Turn On Your Love Light," "Farther Up the Road," and "Ain't No Love in the Heart of the City."
Bland was inducted into the Blues Hall of Fame in 1981 and the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992. He was also honored with the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 1997 for his contributions to music. Bobby Bland's legacy continues to influence generations of musicians and fans, solidifying his place as one of the greats in the history of blues and soul music.
