Bobby Byrd was an American R&B/soul singer, songwriter, and producer, best known for his collaboration with James Brown. Born in 1934 in Toccoa, Georgia, Byrd began his music career in the 1950s as part of the gospel group, The Gospel Starlighters. He later formed the group The Avons and released singles under various record labels. Byrd's career took off when he joined forces with James Brown in the 1960s. He played a crucial role in Brown's band, The Famous Flames, as a backing vocalist and keyboardist. Byrd also had success as a solo artist, with hits like "I Need Help (I Can't Do It Alone)" and "I Know You Got Soul."
Aside from his music career, Byrd was also known for his activism and community work. He founded the Byrd Music Foundation to support young musicians and was involved in various charitable efforts in his community. Bobby Byrd passed away in 2007, leaving behind a legacy as a talented musician and a dedicated community leader.
