Booker T. & The MG's were an American instrumental R&B/funk band that was formed in 1962. The original members included Booker T. Jones (organ, piano), Steve Cropper (guitar), Lewie Steinberg (bass), and Al Jackson Jr. (drums). The group was based in Memphis, Tennessee, and they were a racially integrated band during a time of segregation in the United States.


Booker T. & The MG's were renowned for their tight musicianship and innovative sound, blending elements of R&B, soul, and funk. They were the house band for the iconic record label Stax Records, backing numerous artists such as Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, and Sam & Dave. The band had several instrumental hits of their own, including "Green Onions" and "Time is Tight." They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992, recognizing their significant contributions to the development of soul music.
