Booker T. & The MG's was an American instrumental R&B/funk band that was formed in 1962 in Memphis, Tennessee. The band's original members were Booker T. Jones (organ, piano), Steve Cropper (guitar), Donald "Duck" Dunn (bass), and Al Jackson Jr. (drums). They were one of the first racially integrated rock groups, with both black and white members.
The band is best known for their hit instrumental songs such as "Green Onions" and "Time is Tight." They served as the house band for Stax Records, where they played on numerous recordings for artists like Otis Redding, Wilson Pickett, and Sam & Dave. Booker T. & The MG's were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992, and they received a Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award in 2007. Their unique blend of soul, R&B, and funk music continues to influence musicians across various genres to this day.
