Booker T. & The MG's were an American instrumental R&B/funk band that was formed in 1962. The band was composed of Booker T. Jones (on organ and piano), Steve Cropper (on guitar), Donald "Duck" Dunn (on bass), and Al Jackson Jr. (on drums). They were one of the first racially integrated rock bands, with both black and white members. The group was known for their tight, soulful grooves and instrumental prowess.
Booker T. & The MG's were the house band for Stax Records and played on numerous hit records for the label, including songs by Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, and Wilson Pickett. They also released their own successful instrumental singles, such as "Green Onions," which became a signature song for the band. Booker T. & The MG's were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992, recognizing their influence and contribution to the development of soul music.
