Booker T. & The MG's was an American instrumental R&B/funk band that was formed in 1962 in Memphis, Tennessee. The band's original members included Booker T. Jones (organ, piano), Steve Cropper (guitar), Lewie Steinberg (bass), and Al Jackson Jr. (drums). They were known for their tight, groove-driven sound and their role as the house band for Stax Records, where they served as the backing band for numerous artists, including Otis Redding and Wilson Pickett.
Booker T. & The MG's were pioneers in the development of the Memphis soul sound and were highly influential in the world of R&B and rock music. They had several hit singles, including "Green Onions" and "Time is Tight," and were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992. The band continued to perform and record music until the early 2000s, leaving a lasting legacy in the history of popular music.
