Brook Benton, born Benjamin Franklin Peay on September 19, 1931, was an American singer and songwriter who achieved great success in the 1950s and 1960s. He was known for his smooth baritone voice and his soulful delivery of ballads and rhythm and blues songs. Benton began his music career in the early 1950s, initially as a gospel singer before transitioning to secular music.


Benton's most famous hits include "Rainy Night in Georgia," "It's Just a Matter of Time," and "Endlessly." He recorded numerous albums and singles throughout his career, earning multiple gold records and Grammy nominations. Benton continued performing and recording music until his passing on April 9, 1988, leaving behind a legacy as one of the most distinctive voices in soul and R&B music.
