He was known for his smooth, baritone voice and was a prominent figure in the rhythm and blues and soul music genres during the 1950s and 1960s. Benton achieved success with hits such as "Rainy Night in Georgia," "It's Just a Matter of Time," and "Endlessly."


Throughout his career, Benton recorded numerous albums and singles, and he also collaborated with other artists such as Dinah Washington. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988, recognizing his contributions to the music industry.
