Brook Benton was an American singer and songwriter, born on September 19, 1931, in Lugoff, South Carolina. He was known for his smooth baritone vocals and soulful style, which made him a prominent figure in the rhythm and blues genre. Benton began his music career in the 1950s and had several hits, including "It's Just a Matter of Time" and "Rainy Night in Georgia".


Apart from his solo career, Benton also collaborated with other artists such as Dinah Washington, with whom he recorded several duets. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 and the South Carolina Music Hall of Fame in 2013. Brook Benton's music continues to be celebrated for its emotional depth and powerful delivery, leaving a lasting impact on the music industry.
