Brook Benton was an American singer and songwriter who was born on September 19, 1931, in Lugoff, South Carolina, and passed away on April 9, 1988. He was known for his smooth baritone voice and his soulful rhythm and blues style. Benton began his music career in the 1950s as a member of various gospel groups before achieving success as a solo artist in the early 1960s.
