Brook Benton, born Benjamin Franklin Peay on September 19, 1931, in Camden, South Carolina, was an American singer and songwriter. He is best known for his smooth baritone voice and his soulful R&B ballads. Benton began his music career in the 1950s as a gospel singer before transitioning to R&B and pop music. He achieved commercial success with his hit songs such as "Rainy Night in Georgia," "It's Just a Matter of Time," and "Endlessly."


Throughout his career, Benton released numerous albums and singles, earning multiple Grammy nominations and charting on the Billboard Hot 100. He was known for his ability to blend elements of soul, R&B, and pop music in his songs.
