Brook Benton was an American singer and songwriter born on September 19, 1931, in Lugoff, South Carolina. He is best known for his smooth baritone voice and soulful ballads, which helped him achieve success in the music industry during the 1950s and 1960s. Benton began his career as a gospel singer before transitioning to rhythm and blues and pop music. He released numerous hit songs, including "Rainy Night in Georgia" and "A Rockin' Good Way (To Mess Around and Fall in Love)" with Dinah Washington.


Benton was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1988 for his contributions to the music industry. He continued to perform and record music until his death on April 9, 1988, in Queens, New York. Brook Benton's legacy lives on through his timeless music, which continues to be celebrated by fans of soul and R&B music.
