Brook Benton, born Benjamin Franklin Peay on September 19, 1931, was an American singer and songwriter. He was known for his smooth baritone voice and his ability to blend R&B, soul, and pop music styles. Benton first gained recognition in the late 1950s with hits like "It's Just a Matter of Time" and "Endlessly". He continued to have success throughout the 1960s with songs such as "Rainy Night in Georgia" and "A Rockin' Good Way (To Mess Around and Fall in Love)".


In addition to his solo career, Benton also collaborated with artists like Dinah Washington and Tony Joe White. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2000. Brook Benton passed away on April 9, 1988, leaving behind a legacy of soulful music that continues to be appreciated by fans of R&B and soul music.
